Big Project Underway in Granby

Legg Mason Real Estate Services of Philadelphia is developing a large-scale private golf and residential community in Granby, Colorado. The project includes a Craig Stadler-designed 18-hole championship track called Grand Elk Ranch & Club, and over 600 single- and multi-family homes. Also involved are cabins, a 13,000-square-foot clubhouse, swimming pools, ice-skating rink and a 13-acre retail area.

The developer hopes to provide an inexpensive alternative to the high real estate prices in Vail and Aspen, with the single-family homesites ranging from the mid-$80,000s to about $130,000. Also planned are cabins priced between $250,000 and $400,000. The modest and rustic cabins will range from 640 to 1,400 square feet in size.

The developer began marketing the properties in June 2001 and will open the golf course sometime in 2002. The group has been negotiating with a major supermarket chain to anchor the retail site, which will border U.S. 40 at the entrance of Grand Elk Ranch and Club. That part of the development may include a video store, pharmacy and dry cleaner.
