Changes Planned for Delcastle Golf Club in Delaware

The new operator of Delcastle Golf Club in New Castle, Del., Billy Casper Golf, will be investing more than $800,000 in clubhouse and course-related enhancements in the facility, which is owned by New Castle County

Delcastle marks the second property under BCG management in Delaware. Last spring, the company assumed the operation of Rock Manor Golf Course in Wilmington. After a major renovation to that facility, the two courses now make a convenient one-two option.

Under the multi-year agreement, BCG will oversee all aspects of course and property maintenance, staffing and training, clubhouse operations (food and beverage, merchandising, etc.), golf instruction, marketing and public relations, special events and financial management.

The capital plan for Delcastle includes clubhouse renovations, new golf carts and maintenance equipment, a bunker restoration, tee enlargement and upgrades to the driving range and miniature course.

Justin Smith will be Delcastle's new general manager. An industry veteran and BCG employee since 1999, Smith worked at Springwood Golf Club (Pennsylvania) and Compass Pointe Golf Course (Maryland) before his promotion to general manager of Chesapeake Hills Golf Club (also in Maryland).

"Billy Casper Golf operating Delcastle will significantly benefit area golfers," says Bob Merrill, Assistant Community Services administrator for New Castle County. "We're especially excited about the company's aggressive agronomic plan to ensure excellent course conditions year- round."

"The facelift that Billy Casper Golf will apply to Delcastle is certain to turn heads," says Peter Hill, chairman and CEO of BCG, "and our talented staff will impress golfers with red-carpet treatment and a course they'll pride themselves in playing time and again."

Designed by architect Ed Ault, the par-72 course opened in 1971. It features rolling hills, wide fairways and large bentgrass greens. For more information or a tee time, call 302/998-9505 or visit
