C&W Star Reopens Golf Course Following Remodel

Country and western legend George Strait has completed an eight-month remodel of the golf resort he purchased in April. The 59-year-old Strait, known as the "King of Country," is partners in the Resort at Tapatio Springs with Tom Cusick.

The 250-acre property includes 27 holes of golf and a 112-room hotel. The renovations were made to the restaurant, pro shop, bar area and men and women's locker rooms.

"We were thrilled to officially unveil the new look, feel and flavors of Tapatio," Strait said. "Tom and I have worked hard to create the perfect Texas Hill Country resort, and we look forward to hosting golfers, families and friends, and the community as they experience all that Tapatio Springs has to offer."

Strait added that there are no immediate plans to upgrade the three nine-hole layouts at the facility, which is located near five minutes from the town of Boerne.

"We think the layout - especially the original 18 - is a great layout," the Texas native told San Antonio radio station KSAT. "It might require a little tweaking here and there, but we don't have any plans for that right now."

Cusick said he and his friend acquired the resort and commenced the upgrades due to their mutual fondness for Tapatio Springs "George and I, we've been coming out here for over 25 years, and over the last 10 years, we virtually stopped coming here," Cusick said. "It was just sad to see the condition it was in."

Strait confirmed as much. "It was lacking a lot of TLC and that's what we're giving it now," he said. "We're trying to bring it back and we WILL do it."

Strait is no stranger to success. The Country Music Hall of Fame member recently released his 39th studio album, "Here for a Good Time," which quickly rose to the top of the country charts. The CD's title track, which Strait wrote with his son, Bubba, and songwriter Dean Dillon, became his 58th No. 1 hit.
