Eaglewood Gets Upgrades

More than $1 million in upgrades will greet golfers this spring at the renovated Eaglewood Golf Course. The facility is located 35 miles west of Chicago at the Eaglewood Resort & Spa in Itasca, Ill.

Most noticeable will be the redesign of 70 bunkers throughout the course. “We’re working on bringing this course up to today’s standards by making bunkers more a part of the green complex,” says Andy Carr, director of golf. “We’ll be reshaping the bunkers too, so shot-making skills will be critical.”

The resort is also installing a dual-row irrigation system, replacing the course’s 25-year-old system in order to water the course more efficiently, improve turf conditions and offset potential drought damage. Golfers will also be able to unwind on a new 60-seat patio off the 18th green.

The upgrades are slated for completion in late spring 2006. “We are excited about all changes that are taking place this golf season,” says Greg Parsons, general manager of Eaglewood Resort & Spa. “While new courses are springing up everywhere, it is not often that you are able to improve on one with such history. Its mature landscaping set amidst the backdrop of a fabulous resort is the perfect combination. For golfers who haven’t played here in years, this is the season to rediscover the spectacular course.”

Built in 1928, the former Nordic Hills course now features improved quality of play by the addition of water features and length. Lined with 100-year-old oak trees and winding along three lakes and Salt Creek, water enters play on eight of the 18 holes. Severely sloping greens earn the 6,017-yard course the nickname of "The Little Green Menace." Boasting an island green at the 6th hole, the tight course is challenging despite its brevity.

Greens fees start as low as $40. Annual unlimited golf memberships are available, including discounts off greens and cart fees, pro shop merchandise, restaurants and all recreational amenities, and a locker for the season.

In addition to golf, Eaglewood Resort & Spa offers 295 guest rooms and suites, 38,000 square feet of meeting space, and a health spa. Eaglewood is located on 106 acres in northwest suburban Chicago, just 35 miles from downtown, and 21 miles west of O'Hare International Airport.
