Faldo Named Designer of Bella Collina
Bella Collina, the 1,900-acre private community under development by Ginn Clubs & Resorts, has named 2006 Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo as the course designer. Faldo’s Championship golf course at Bella Collina will be his first in Florida.
Faldo recently visited Bella Collina, accompanied Steve Smyers, lead architect and Wayne Smith, senior vice president and COO of Ginn Golf. Faldo was pleased with the ongoing design and gave his own insightful contribution to the detailed plans.
“Nick will bring a very unique design style to Bella Collina,” said Smith. “Not only is he a fantastic person to be around, he is a superb player and truly loves the game of golf. His expertise on the course and design style will ensure that the course at Bella Collina is one of the finest golf courses in Central Florida.”
Under Faldo’s direction, a dramatic routing has been prepared for the 18-hole, championship private course at the heart of a community being built by Ginn. Set in the Florida highlands, Bella Collina will feature an equestrian center, Har-Tru tennis courts, residencies and a spa and health facility. The course will be built on a naturally sandy site with steep elevation changes, unusual for that part of Orlando. Stretching over 7,500 yards, the challenging course will offer views across the community’s two large lakes.
“I am very happy with the way our project is coming along at Bella Collina and very excited at the prospect of playing the course when it is finished next year,” said Faldo during the visit. “I have been looking to design a course in Orlando for some time and this unique site has exceeded all of my expectations. I’m sure that we are going to be able to offer members of this very special community an inspiring golfing experience that they will enjoy for years to come.”
The project is one of four courses Ginn Clubs & Resorts currently has under construction in the state of Florida. The Faldo design is expected to be completed in late 2006.
