Have Your Golf Game Soar at Falcon Ridge

The golf course at Falcon Ridge occupies part of a 700-acre development in Cedar Grove, a village located halfway between Nashville and Memphis. Falcon Ridge Golf Club & Estates is the second West Tennessee course developed, designed and built by Dave Gremmels. Gremmels’ first project, Shiloh Golf Course, lies in Adamsville near the Shiloh National Military Park (see the accompanying article).

Like its sister course, Falcon Ridge enjoys a colorful past. As local legend goes, this part of Tennessee was discovered by a band of Native Americans migrating westward toward the Mississippi River after being displaced by European settlers. The Indians came upon a clearing surrounded by hills, valleys, badlands, rivers and lakes. As per custom, they awaited a sign to determine if the land was meant for them. As they waited, a grand bird descended from the sky and alit on one of the hills overlooking the clearing. The Native Americans took this as a sign that the land was too beautiful to touch, so they continued westward and left the areas for others to settle.

Although golf might not have been the activity these original visitors envisioned for Falcon Ridge, the Native Americans will probably be pleased that Gremmel’s vision for the property preserves the beauty and harmony of nature in the pristine setting.

The semiprivate, par-72 layout – which stretches 6,965 yards from the back tees – ventures along a valley, incorporating two lakes, keystone walls and colorful landscaping. Nearby estate lots give residents breathtaking views of the lush surrounding area. Besides golf, residents have access to nature trails and a fishing lake.

Falcon Crest offers a variety of memberships, including individual, family and corporate. For public players, green fees are $36 for weekday 18-hole rounds and $39 on weekends. The course address is 400 Summit Chase, Cedar Grove, Tennessee 38321. To get there, travel 17 miles east of Jackson on Interstate 40; take exit 101 and go 2.8 miles to the course.
