La Cantera Offers Guests 'Texas Open Promotion'

Banking on 15 years of history as the immediate past host site of the Valero Texas Open, the Westin La Cantera Resort and La Cantera Golf Club is offering locals and hotel guests a rare Tour-like experience this May on the public 7,001-yard, par-72 layout.

La Cantera Resort Hole 7

La Cantera's Resort Course, located on one of the San Antonio's highest points and designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish, hosted the Texas Open tournament from 1994-2009. This year, May 10-16 marks the new venue for the Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio located in the north part of the Alamo City.

Throughout the month of May, the "Play Where the Pros Played" experience at La Cantera will offer the Weiskopf/Morrish Resort Course set up to PGA Tour specifications, including moving holes 5 and 10, normally par-5s, to par-4s as the course will play to a par of 70. Players will also be given PGA Tour yardage guides identical to those used by the pros during competition.

In conjunction with this year's event, on May 15 the public is invited to take part in an open invitational golf tournament that will feature a morning shotgun start, lunch, tickets to watch that day's round on the AT&T Oaks course at TPC San Antonio and transportation to and from the event (with on-board libations provided).

Off the links, the month-long celebration of golf history continues inside La Cantera, including a Champions Circle display, featured wines by PGA Tour players and more.

New in 2010, both courses include an enhanced driving range and practice facility, with attendants, a relaxation center, target greens and complete short-game practice area, plus certified Callaway and Titleist club-fitting services.
