Palmer & Watson Open Two Courses at Reunion Resort & Club

Reunion Resort & Club of Orlando officially unveiled its two new golf courses on Monday, February 14. The openings were highlighted by a nine-hole exhibition with Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson, designers of the Legacy and Independence courses, respectively.

The day began with breakfast and a grand opening ceremony on the Reunion Resort driving range, followed by a golf clinic co-hosted by Palmer and Watson, the nine-hole exhibition on a composite layout of the new courses, a luncheon press conference with the two golfing legends and, finally, a round of golf featuring select members of Reunion Resort and the media.

The 7,010-yard Palmer-designed Legacy Course utilizes a combination of natural rolling terrain with mature trees, pristine natural preserve areas and extensive landscaping. The 7,257-yard Independence Course, the first Watson design in Florida, is a traditional parkland-style layout bordering the Davenport Creek nature preserve. Its terrain contains elevation variations of as much as 45 feet from tee to green. With fast, firm and wide rolling fairways, a variety of strategically-placed bunkers and large greens, Independence is as much about strategy as it is length.

The third course at Reunion, a Jack Nicklaus Signature design, is scheduled to open in late 2005.

In addition to golf, the $2 billion, 2,300-acre resort near Walt Disney World along the Interstate 4 corridor includes many luxury resort amenities, including a water and swim pavilion to open this spring, shopping and dining in Reunion Square, a spa and fitness center, tennis pavilion, entertainment center, kids camp and recreation areas. In addition, the resort will feature horse stables and more than 18 miles of walking, biking and riding trails within steps of the communityıs single- and multi-family homes, condominiums and townhouses.

Rental rates for a one-bedroom villa start at $205, while rates for a three-bedroom villa start at $325. Single-family homes are available to rent from $305 to $835 per night. For additional overnight options, visit For tee times and additional information, call 888/418-9611.
