Registration Ends August 8 for 30th Annual World Am

Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday - the Grand Strand's golf marketing cooperative - has announced that registration for its World Amateur Handicap Championship ends on August 8.

The Dye 18 at Barefoot Resort

Held August 26-30, more than 3,000 participants worldwide have already entered to play in the amateur event. The $550 entry fee includes 72 holes of golf on a different course daily as well as an opportunity to compete in a fifth-round championship playoff on Friday, August 31 (flight winners and ties).

The rota of 60-plus premier area layouts includes the Norman, Fazio and Love courses at Barefoot Resort, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, True Blue Golf Plantation and King's North at Myrtle Beach National. The championship playoff will be held at Barefoot Resort's Dye Club.

The entry fee also includes a gift bag ($300 value) and nightly access to "The World's Largest 19th Hole" at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The vast festival of golf features equipment demos, entertainment, open bars, concerts, prize drawings and food from superb area restaurants. Golf Channel analysts Charlie Rymer and Brandel Chamblee are among the celebrities scheduled to appear.

"Few destinations could hold an event of this magnitude as comfortably as we can here in Myrtle Beach," says Jeff Monday, tournament director. "With so many outstanding courses to choose from as well as accommodation options for all budgets, this tournament showcases why we're the golf capital of the U.S."

World Am participants are flighted based on gender, age and handicap index. The tournament is comprised of approximately 70 flights and all flight winners advance to the 18-hole playoff where a champion is crowned. The event's inclusiveness is apparent in its past champions as winners with handicaps as low as 3 and as high as 34 have won. Four women have hoisted the championship trophy.
