Sea Pines Resort to Host 'Els for Autism Golf Challenge'

Sea Pines Resort - home of the PGA Tour's RBC Heritage - will host the "Els for Autism Golf Challenge" benefiting the Els for Autism Foundation at its Harbour Town Golf Links, September 10.

Els for Autism Golf Challenge

Spearheaded by Tour great Ernie Els and his wife Liezl, the Els for Autism Foundation helps children worldwide living with the disorder. It funds scientific research aimed at understanding Autism and developing knowledge-based treatments with the intention of finding a cure. Additionally, it funds "Centers of Excellence" featuring educational programs for students' ages 3 to 21, doctor /specialist services and continuing services for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

The Golf Challenge is the largest charity-driven international golf tournament in history. In 2011, the inaugural series received phenomenal support with over 1,700 golfers, 8,500 donors and in excess of $1.8 million contributed. In 2012, the 30-event series kicked off in April and culminates October 19-20 at the Grand Finale in Las Vegas.

Participating two-person teams can reach the Grand Finale with the low-net winning score at Harbour Town or raising $10,000 and qualifying automatically. Golfers receive an Els for Autism gift bag, box lunch, use of Harbour Town's practice facilities, locker-room access, cocktail reception with heavy hors d'oeuvres and an awards presentation in the clubhouse. Registration is $600 per player.

"The noble work of the Els for Autism Foundation makes a tremendous difference for children and families all over the world who live daily with this disorder," say Rick and Gay Reichel, longtime friends of the Els and chairpersons of the Els for Autism Golf Challenge in Hilton Head.

"We're truly honored to hold the Els for Autism Golf Challenge here at Sea Pines," says Cary Corbitt, the Sea Pines Resort's director of sports and operations. "We look forward to supporting the wonderful work of Ernie, Liezl and their foundation."
