StoneRidge Receives Honor

The Bobby Weed-designed StoneRidge Golf Club received an Honorable Mention citation in Golf Magazine’s list of “Best New Courses You Can Play” in its March issue. The Best New Courses features a variety of styles and price ranges in the listing; StoneRidge is an upscale daily fee course located in Stillwater, Minnesota, near St. Paul. According to the National Golf Foundation well over 350 new facilities opened in 2000.

Opened in July 2000, StoneRidge is a heathland-style design with broad areas of sand, native grasses and scrub. Natural materials, sand bunkers and indigenous prairie grasses give it the look of a course that has been around for many years, instead of months. Wide, rolling fairways are well-suited to playing shots along the ground, like the old courses in the British Isles. The routing encourages walking, with short green-to-tee distances short.

StoneRidge was one of four Weed Design courses that opened in 2000. The others were: the Olde Farm, named Best New Private Course by Golf Digest; the Golf Course at Glen Mills School, which will host a regional qualifier for the USGA Public Links in June; and the Golf Club at Fleming Island, which opened in November.
