Volunteers Needed for 2006 U.S. Women’s Open In Newport R.I.

Volunteer applications are now available for the 61st U.S. Women's Open Championship to be held June 26-July 2, 2006 at Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I. Potential volunteers are encouraged to submit their applications early. Volunteers can choose to work on one of more than 20 committees, including admissions, course evacuation, leaderboards, transportation/airport greeters and merchandise. Early submission of applications allows volunteers to specify their preference regarding their committee choice.

More than 2,500 volunteers are needed for the 2006 U.S. Women's Open, the most prestigious competition in women's golf. Volunteers will be required to purchase a volunteer package for $95. This package, a $200 value, includes a uniform, a credential valid for all seven days of the championship, and complimentary meals while working.

2004 U.S. Women's Open champion Meg Mallon and past champions including Annika Sorenstam, Se Ri Pak and Karrie Webb will lead an international field of 156 of the world's best professional and amateur golfers in pursuit of the U.S. Women's Open title. The athletes will be put to the test at a venue rich in USGA history and host of the first U.S. Open, held in 1895.
