Work Continues on New Course near Peoria

Construction is underway on a new public course in Metamora, a town near Peoria, Ill. Designed by Weibring-Wolfard Golf Design of Dallas, Texas, Metamora Fields Golf Club is slated to open later this year.

The 18-hole layout will stretch 7,100 yards from the back tees. The facility will feature a 25-station practice range, a short-game area, and a 20,000-square-foot clubhouse that will be able to host functions serving as many as 400 guests. Greens fees are projected to be in the lower $40s during the week and low $50s on the weekends.

The course is part of a larger development that involves a 102-lot subdivision.

The course is being built by Turf Solutions Group (TSG), a golf construction company located in Peoria. "We will manage all construction activity for the entire 240-acre project," says Jason Payne, TSG's managing partner.

Before construction of the course could begin this spring, TSG handled the process of annexing the site into the village of Metamora. The zoning, permitting, engineering and financial modeling steps were part of the services provided by the company. TSG is also assisting with marketing the course and surrounding community.

"We're new to this," explained Vicki Brinkman, whose family is behind the project with an estimated budget of over $10 million. "We had no idea about everything that went into this. We'd be lost without Turf Solutions and everything they've done."
